What you’ll learn
The task
A fictional office supply team has item IDs, names, and prices in a small catalog. You need the price for a requested ID without searching every row. By the end, you will write an exact-match formula, test it against the source, and recognize when a returned value needs further checking.
Your success check
You can explain your lookup and return ranges, get 18.5 for Q103, show a clear missing-record message for Q999, and identify a duplicate-ID risk. Allow 10-15 minutes for reading and extra time to practice. This course does not teach approximate matching or advanced dynamic arrays.
Requires Excel for Microsoft 365, Excel 2021, Excel 2024, or Excel for the web. XLOOKUP is unavailable in Excel 2016 and 2019.
